Eye tracking can be considered another add-on to games like rumbling in controllers or programmable buttons in a mouse.įor the PC version of Assassin’s Creed Rogue, the SteelSeries Sentry eye-tracking device would have to be attached to your monitor. The Oculus Rift lets players step into virtual worlds and it tracks head movements so that they can look around seamlessly as they would in real life. Although eye tracking may sound similar to the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, the two technologies offer very different experiences. Tobii’s eye tracker technology adds to the immersive technologies used in gaming nowadays. “We are one of the first to integrate this technology in a video game, and the first to implement eye tracking as a gameplay input in a game of that scale - providing Assassin’s Creed Rogue gamers with an entirely new, complementary input to the keyboard and mouse.”

To enable eye movement as an in-game control, Tobii partnered with SteelSeries on the Sentry device - which is the first gaming eye tracker. “Eye tracking is such a natural way to interact with a game and creates tons of potential opportunities for gameplay immersion,” said Ubisoft Kiev producer Corneliu Vasiliu.

Tobii Technology said that this will be the world’s first AAA game to integrate eye tracking as a component of gameplay. The PC version of Assassin’s Creed Rogue will have support for the Tobii EyeX Controller and SteelSeries Sentry, which means that the game supports eye-tracking inputs. Ubisoft recently announced that Assassin’s Creed Rogue will be released for the PC on March 10th.
